Scottish Ballet
Indigo was taken on board by Scottish Ballet to help attract a wider audience
to its productions. Initially this was for the ground-breaking production,
Sweat, Baroque & Roll. Indigo suggested that for the first time ever,
the dancers themselves appear on the Posters and Leaflets and for the first
time postcards were designed for distribution in nightclubs and bars. The
campaign was so successful it won attention in its own right from the Scottish
Sunday papers, and, as planned, there was a significant upturn in the numbers,
particularly of men, attending the ballet.
Indigo went on to produce the design for print for Scottish
Ballet for the next four years, including 'Cinderella', the Christmas Ballet.
This prestigious production is vital in generating the lion's share of the
Ballet's annual income. The main audience is women over 40 and young girls.
The campaign was designed specifically to attract this audience giving a
sense of wonder, and traditional Christmas magic.
Indigo was asked to create advertising Posters and Flyers
for the National Tours. Scottish Ballet were keen to convey the unique sense
of location and special occasion of the dancers travelling to perform in
remote, rural parts of Scotland.
Indigo also worked on campaigns ranging from 'Cool Classics', primarily
a jazz programme with only one pair of pointe shoes appearing, to La Sylphide,
a more traditional-style ballet.
For these projects Indigo co-ordinated choreographers
and dancers; found locations; chose costumes; sourced and commissioned specialist
photographers and illustrators to create all sorts of graphics material
which ranged from large 4-sheet posters, programmes, advertisements, to
educational brochures and promotional postcards.
